![]() As a Google Trainer, I love all things Googley! I was so excited when Google Expeditions started offering a Pioneer Program for their new Augmented Reality to schools. I signed up online and just a few days later I was contacted to coordinate a day for a Google employee to come out and and share Expeditions with my school. The entire process was seamless and easy to set up. I selected a date and reached out to the teachers at my school. I set up a schedule and sent it off to our Google coordinator. On the big day, our Google employee, Alicia, arrived with everything we needed- phones, selfie sticks, and a portable router. All we needed to provide were charging outlets and excited teachers. I helped Alicia set up the equipment and she showed me the awesome features of Expeditions. The morning began with a quick teacher training. Alicia and I explained AR to the teachers, and showed them an example of VR using Google Cardboard. Then, the teachers got to experience We have a giant Performing Arts Center instead of a traditional MPR, so we were able to run two classes at the same time. Each teacher preselected which Expedition they wanted to try out. Some popular choices were Landforms, DaVinci's Inventions, Solar System, and Forces of Nature. It was amazing how many students we were able to reach in just one day with Expeditions AR. The AR feature of the Expeditions app is still in beta, but the VR portion is live and free! Check out the available VR Expeditions here. Fill out this Google Form to see if Google will come out to your school too!
